Other Structures Coverage

Definition: Insurance protecting detached buildings on your property like garages, sheds, and fences.

Other structures coverage (Coverage B) protects buildings on your property that aren't attached to your main home.

What's Typically Covered:

  • Detached garages
  • Storage sheds
  • Workshops
  • Gazebos and pergolas
  • Fences and retaining walls
  • Guest houses (not rented out)
  • Swimming pools
  • Driveways and walkways

    Coverage Amount:

Typically 10% of your dwelling coverage. If your dwelling coverage is $300,000, other structures coverage would be $30,000.

What's NOT Covered:

  • Structures used for business
  • Structures rented to non-family members
  • Damage from excluded perils (flood, earthquake)

    Increasing Coverage:

If your detached structures are worth more than 10% of your dwelling, you can purchase additional coverage through an endorsement.
